“I had the pleasure of working together with Mr Barnaby Nerberka for seven years, starting in 2015, while he was Ruptly’s London-based Field Producer. As the Head of Planning and Operations I was his line manager throughout this time. The position involved being available 24/7 not only in London, but also ready to travel around Europe for the international video news agency. Once in the field, he would cover any breaking news or pre-planned story by means of written script & video package or live transmission. When not traveling, Barnaby would be constantly scouting for and producing stories focusing on the UK. Throughout the years he covered countless big events including summits and conferences, he single-handedly took care of the production and execution of the coverage of complex stories in the UK and abroad and traveled to destinations including the Greek-Turkish border, where he spent hours on end capturing both images depicting the plight of refugees, but also confrontations between the two countries’ security forces – often live. The highlight of our joint professional journey was without a doubt the successful coverage of the events that led up to Julian Assange being dragged out of the Ecuadorian Embassy and arrested, as well as the aftermath of his arrest including his trial. Barnaby’s world-exclusive images were not only used by Ruptly’s hundreds of subscribers, but helped the agency secure more international clients. Barnaby is being remembered as an extremely efficient and active employee who never had to be told twice what needs to be done. His technical skills, contacts and knowledge when it came to the actual news and his wide-ranging interests, meant that he often exceeded his responsibilities, regularly pitching valid news stories and assigning other collaborators as necessary. As Barnaby’s former manager, I would hire him again in a heartbeat should our paths cross again. At this point, I cannot help but feel a bit envious of his future employer and wish him the best of luck in what promises to be a bright future.” K.A.
“It has been a real pleasure working with Barnaby. He is a genuinely versatile journalist and producer who can step into almost any role and deliver strong results, whether that involves writing, editing, or developing new digital content. Barnaby’s written work has been especially valuable. He regularly produced clear and objective reporting on complex and sensitive subjects, including developments in Russia and Ukraine as well as the conflict in Gaza and Israel. His writing is balanced, well-structured and grounded in sound editorial judgement, which made him someone I trusted with high-risk stories. One of the things I appreciated most was his willingness to come forward with new ideas. Barnaby is always thinking ahead and looking for ways we could innovate. His proposals showed a real understanding of what audiences care about and how to turn those themes into meaningful digital projects. He adapted quickly to the needs of the team and filled a wide range of responsibilities without hesitation. He understands how a digital newsroom works and he fits into it naturally, contributing wherever he is needed while maintaining a professional and reliable presence. I can confidently recommend Barnaby as a talented and thoughtful digital journalist.” G.B.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Barnaby for several years and his work ethic and dependability has always been perfect. Barnaby has a skill set which is very unique in the media world. He has the ability to operate under high pressure and within strict deadlines whilst staying composed. Barnaby is natural leader who thrives in challenging situations and leads from the front. Barnaby’s skill set are wide and varied. His management abilities, technical knowledge, reliability and professionalism make Barnaby an asset to have onboard for any project.” E.C.
“I had the pleasure of working with Barnaby during major UK based coverages. These have included high profile summits from the 47th G7 in Cornwall to fast-moving breaking news like the anti-protocol unrest in Belfast to terrorism attacks in London. Barnaby’s versatile skill-set made him an exceptional colleague during these challenging high-stakes field productions. His ingenuity during complex shoots, his ability to spot fresh angles ahead of competitors and his dogged work ethic on long demanding days make him an ideal team player in any 24-hour news operation.” F.G.
