“I had the pleasure of working together with Mr Barnaby Nerberka for seven years, starting in 2015, while he was Ruptly’s London-based Field Producer. As the Head of Planning and Operations I was his line manager throughout this time. The position involved being available 24/7 not only in London, but also ready to travel around Europe for the international video news agency. Once in the field, he would cover any breaking news or pre-planned story by means of written script & video package or live transmission. When not traveling, Barnaby would be constantly scouting for and producing stories focusing on the UK. Throughout the years he covered countless big events including summits and conferences, he single-handedly took care of the production and execution of the coverage of complex stories in the UK and abroad and traveled to destinations including the Greek-Turkish border, where he spent hours on end capturing both images depicting the plight of refugees, but also confrontations between the two countries’ security forces – often live. The highlight of our joint professional journey was without a doubt the successful coverage of the events that led up to Julian Assange being dragged out of the Ecuadorian Embassy and arrested, as well as the aftermath of his arrest including his trial. Barnaby’s world-exclusive images were not only used by Ruptly’s hundreds of subscribers, but helped the agency secure more international clients. Barnaby is being remembered as an extremely efficient and active employee who never had to be told twice what needs to be done. His technical skills, contacts and knowledge when it came to the actual news and his wide-ranging interests, meant that he often exceeded his responsibilities, regularly pitching valid news stories and assigning other collaborators as necessary. As Barnaby’s former manager, I would hire him again in a heartbeat should our paths cross again.
